Podaegi Baby Carrier
Back Carry Wearing Instructions

(Demonstrated by Autumn and Jarom)

1. Stretch the podaegi out on a large chair or sofa  Place baby on the podaegi so that it goes all the way up to the base of the baby's neck.

2.  Pull the straps of the podaegi around in front of you tightly.  While holding the podaegi straps taut in front of you with one hand, stand up slowly. Always support the baby's bottom with the other hand until the podaegi is completely on. Lean over and boost baby up your back to a comfortable position. Baby's head should be high on your back.

3.  You have two options at this point: one, you can TIE the straps as shown in the picture above, or, you can just CROSS the straps.  You are doing this above your breasts. Then, pull baby close to your back by pulling on the straps. You want as little space as possible without making it too tight.

4.  Take the straps and pull them over your shoulders going from the front to the back.

5.  Pull straps under the baby's bum and then cross them (as you would for a Traditional Strapless Position).

6.  Pull straps around front and tie them, and you're done!

This is what the front looks like if you tie it above your chest. The advantage to this way is that it is easier to to get tight enough and easier to adjust it just by pulling a little on the tie.

This is what the front looks like if you choose to just cross the straps over your chest.  It is a little more difficult to get this way tight enough without help.

Cute picture with Autumn who has Jarom
snuggling against her back.

Extra Information:
It is normal for the baby, especially an older baby, to pull their arms out of the podaegi. There is nothing to worry about if they do. Just make sure that the podaegi is up under their armpits so that if they lean back they are supported as much as possible. You also want to make sure they are very close to your back without very much space at all between the two of you to help make carrying more comfortable and also because it is safer when they are closer to your back.

In addition, make sure you have the straps tied well under their bum. If it's not secure underneath, they can slowly start sliding out. This is something very easy to prevent by making sure you tie it completely under their diaper and make sure their legs are straddling you. Also remember that there is no reason to tie the podaegi really tight around the baby's legs and your waist, just make it comfortably tight. If it feels uncomfortable, loosen it until it feels right.

The podaegi is very safe and fun. Just make sure to follow these little tips to wearing the podaegi the correct way, and it'll be extremely safe!
